Silje Nesdal (b.1982) holds an MA in Furniture Design and Interior architecture from Bergen Academy of Arts and Design and Alvar Aalto University in Helsinki. Silje also holds a BA in Textile Design from Oslo University Collage, and has been working in the fashion industry in Oslo and Japan. She combines her experiences from textile and fashion with furniture design and enjoys working interdisciplinary. Silje grew up in Stryn, the scenic area of the Western fjords in Norway. This community is characterized by long tradition of wool, woodwork and furniture industry.

Silje Nesdals design consists of simple and subtle forms and unobtrusive aesthetics. She is inspired by traditional use of materials and techniques both local, as well as Finnish and Japanese.

The name Konglomerat comes from Latin and means "mixture." This conglomerate is fossilized and consists mostly of rounded stones, gravel, sand, and clay. The bookends are crafted from 350–380 million-year-old Norwegian stone, extracted from a quarry on Værlandet, an island off the coast of Sunnfjord.

The Greenstone Breccia is ancient oceanic crust resulting from the breakdown of the ocean area west of Norway around 425 million years ago. This stone comprises volcanic rocks and heated conglomerate of coarse material, cemented together by brownish-gray sandstone.

This project is a collaboration with a quarry on the island of Bulandet, west of the Norwegian coastline. Laila Landøy runs this quarry, which harbors four types of stone. Konglomerat and Grønsteinbreksje that are used for the bookends, are manufactured here. Learning the craft and machine work from Laila Landøy, the owner of the quarry, was particularly rewarding. The stone comes from my original local area in outer Sunnfjord, Bulandet, making this project deeply personal and connected to my roots.
